Motherhood

I have been reflecting lately on the joy I have being a mother. I feel so blessed to have the privilege of motherhood in my life. Motherhood is something that I have dreamed about since I was a little girl and I can't believe that it is even better and more rewarding than I could have ever dreamed of. Lydia has shown me so much and made me feel things I didn't even know existed. It is so rewarding watching her grow and change so much everyday. She, like every child is sent from Heaven with such a sweet spirit and mission.  I have been thinking a lot about how I can raise Lydia to be a women of God in this sometimes cruel world. Margaret D. Nadauld said something in the October 2000 conference which has made me think of what kind of women I want to be and the example I want to set for Lydia. As I read this I can't help but think of my own mother and the example she was to me and the impression she left on so many people in her short time here on earth.

Women of God can never be like women of the world.
The world has enough women who are tough; we need women who are tender.
There are enough women who are coarse; we need women who are kind.
There are enough women who are rude; we need women who are refined.
We have enough women of fame and fortune; we need more women of faith.
We have enough greed; we need more goodness.
We have enough vanity; we need more virtue.
We have enough popularity; we need more purity.

I think I can add to that and say we have enough grown-ups in this worlds, lets be more like little children who have unconditional love for everyone without judging. Just look at that smile! Lets have more smiles like that in life! (ok, I guess we need to be a grown-up sometimes)

You're the best, Michelle. :) Thanks for this uplifting post. We are so blessed to be mother's; I needed that reminder. Your mom was the best too! She left a big impression on me in the few years I knew her, and I think of her a lot. She taught me some silly things too... like take a shower everyday but only wash your hair every other day (lol.. she really told me that), and that Charmin is really good for padding a bra, and when people come to your house you should stuff them with food whether they think they want it or not!, and that husbands and wifes should be best friends and flirt all the time (even in front of their kids' friends)... I could go on. Anyway, I'm glad you love motherhood as much as (I always thought) your mom did. I love it too. :)

That was very sweet. I really enjoyed the discussion that you, me, and the other mom had about having babies and dates in our Adult class. I love motherhood and all the joys that came with it.

Michelle you are wonderful. I'm sure your mom is so proud of you and the woman you've become. I've always loved that quote too.

Oh my goodness. Your last three posts have delighted me. Even the bloody nose/throw up/bathtub one. I haven't been loving being a mom lately (my babe has been so sick too) and your post gave me a little lift and some much needed perspective. And can I just say, Lydia makes me want to scream, she is so precious! That smile! Too much!
